Lowcountry Go is a regional partnership of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and employers and stakeholders in the Tri-County region. Working together, the program focuses on reducing traffic congestion and improving quality of life for our region.

Lowcountry Go connects real people with real solutions and supports carpools, vanpools, public transit, walking, biking, emergency ride home, and many other programs that encourage behavior changes among commuters. In addition, Lowcountry Go works with regional employers to promote sustainable commute options in the workplace, such as work flextime, staggered shifts, and incentives.

The Lowcountry Go Vanpool Program provides eligible groups of four or more commuters with a 7 or 15 passenger van to use to commute to and from work. Vanpooling is an easy, convenient, and inexpensive service that connects people throughout the Tricounty area who are interest in alternative transportation options. The month-to-month lease includes the vehicle, insurance, maintenance, gas, and an Emergency Ride Home.

Vanpooling at a Glance

  • Monthly cost is divided among the riders. The more riders, the lower the cost!
  • At least two members of the group qualify to be the primary driver and back-up driver.
  • Most vans meet at a central location like a Park & Ride lot.
  • There must be a minimum of four individuals to start a vanpool.
  • Vanpoolers are eligible for refundable taxi rides in the event of an emergency through the Emergency Ride Home program.
